Reasons Your Child Isn’t Sleeping

Is your wee child not sleeping? Being a parent can be amazing. It can also be pretty frustrating at times. If your little one just isn’t sleeping through the night, you may be doing something wrong. If you have an issue with a child not sleeping or you’re going through the dreaded 4-month sleep regression, making a couple of quick adjustments can work like a charm. Here are some potential reasons why your child isn’t sleeping.


Neglecting an Actual Routine

Kids are creatures of habit and routine. If your child just isn’t sleeping well, it may be due to the fact that he or she lacks a reliable routine. It can be a terrific idea to designate unwavering meal and sleep times for your kids. Tangible routines can do so much for children and their day-to-day lifestyles. You can even maintain kids’ sleep cycles while on vacation.

Ignoring Cues Your Baby Is Giving

Babies have their own communication and interaction skills. If your baby isn’t sleeping well, it may be simply because you’re dismissing any indications that he or she is giving you. If your wee one starts crying like clockwork at a certain hour, then it may be because he or she is trying to say something to you.

Creating Sleep Crutches

Kids sometimes aren’t able to sleep without “crutches.” If you child has a new habit of sleeping with the television on, turning it off may interfere with things. If he or she has a penchant for sleeping on your bed next to you, taking that away may interfere significantly with things as well. The introduction of sleep crutches can often be bad news for parents who want their kids to have outstanding sleep practices.

Putting Your Baby to Sleep Wherever You Are

Since babies are naturally creatures of habit, they often prefer falling and staying asleep in settings that are 100 percent familiar to them. If you try to put your cutie to sleep in a strange new spot, that may throw him or her off in a big way. It may do a number on his or her sleeping for the night as well. If you want your child to sleep soundly, then you should put him or her to sleep in a setting that’s predictable.

Not Having a Sleep Schedule

The absence of any kind of dependable sleep schedule can lead to all sorts of consequences. If you enable your child to go to bed whenever he or she wants, that can bring on chaos. Kids tend to thrive when they have reliable and firm schedules in place. If your child falls asleep at random times on a nightly basis, he or she may not be tired any time you try to encourage going to bed earlier. 

Giving in Too Soon

Giving in prematurely can be awful for parents who want their kids to sleep well. If your child complains about being “forced” to go to bed, you don’t want to make the error of giving in rapidly and allowing him or her to return to the living room to watch television or play with toys.

If your kid has any sleeping difficulties, you need to get to the bottom of the situation immediately. Be sure to investigate all potential triggers so you can finally get sleep again yourself.
